A quick look at Mandros Imported Foods today, a small shop of specialty Greek, Italian, and Mediterranean foods in northwestern Lancaster. I regret not going in, as it looks like a fun place to stop and look around. Notice that, in that exterior picture on Yelp, there's a sign for Red Rose Food Stores. I wonder if that was a cooperative of independent grocers in this part of Pennsylvania at some point. I couldn't find anything searching online. Anybody familiar with that name? There's another grocery store about two blocks away, which we'll be taking a look inside tomorrow!

  1. Apparently, Lancaster is known as the Red Rose City, so that could have something to do with it.

One thought might be to check (or ask) at groceteria . com, as they have information on many places. Didn't see this particularly, but someone on that page may know the name or more details.

    1. Ah, good points to both. Interestingly enough, Madison, NJ (not far from where I'm from) is the Rose City.
