It's just a bit east of yesterday's Adams Fairacre Farms , but a very different supermarket. If Adams is a sprawling gourmet market and garden center, Market Fresh is a compact but well-appointed straightforward supermarket. Then again, at 30,500 square feet, it's not exactly small, but the 80,000 square foot Adams complex dwarfs it. There are three Market Fresh stores affiliated with Allegiance Retail Services (which also runs Foodtown , Pathmark , and Green Way stores), the other two being in Poughkeepsie 16 miles or so north of here, and Middletown , about as far west. We previously saw the Staten Island location of the same chain, and although both opened in 2018, this opened slightly before Staten Island in the ground floor of the Avalon Westmont Station mixed-use development. The store's address, on Rosie Square, is a reference to Rosie the Riveter , a World War II-era icon. Unfortunately, there's no real relation of the character of Rosie to this particular development, aside from the fact that a factory previously on this site employed similar women during World War II, but there is a nice statue in the center of the parking lot. Market Fresh Supermarket Owner:  Kenny Othman Opened:  2018 Cooperative:  Krasdale Location:  570 Tompkins Ave, Rosebank, Staten Island, NY Photographed:  March 2020 This former Walgreens was converted to the independent Market Fresh Supermarket, owned by the same family that owns the Key Food on Flatbush Ave . Market Fresh also had a location in Wood-Ridge, NJ, which has since gone out of business (but will be coming to the blog here soon). There's another Market Fresh out there somewhere, but I've yet to figure out where that location is. As I mentioned, this store was a Walgreens. And the restroom in the basement still has a Walgreens garbage can! The 8,000 square foot store begins with produce lining both sides of the first aisle. Deli is at the back, with meats on the back wall. Dairy, oddly, is in the middle of the store in aisle 3, with frozen foods in the last aisle. The store, although it's not large, is very nice.
