TOUR: Old World Food Market - Nyack, NY

Old World Food Market Owner: Andrew Poma Jr. Opened:  2009 Cooperative:  none Location:  40 NY-59, Nyack, NY Photographed:  March 8, 2023 Welcome to the Old World Food Market of Nyack! This spectacular store is actually just 15,000 square feet, although it feels much larger -- and built around a 9,000 square foot or so barrel-roof building. I'm not positive what the building was originally, as it has some characteristics that resemble an A&P, but there was also definitely an A&P across the street -- and both were built between 1953 and 1964. Old World Food Market opened up here in 2009 after a gorgeous renovation to turn the space into a roomy gourmet supermarket. We enter in the front right corner of the store to bakery and prepared foods on the right side of the store. Massive hot and cold food bars line the left side of that aisle. Meat and seafood counters are at the back of the first aisle, with dairy and frozen in the rest of the back part of the stor...

Coming Soon!

Welcome (back) to Rockland County! This is now our third time here, having visited before with a selection of stores across the county, but this time we'll be seeing all different stores we've never checked out before, including some new ones. We'll start in Suffern in the southwestern part of the county, then pass through Spring Valley, Nanuet, and Nyack along route 59 on our way east to the Hudson River, which separates Rockland County from its eastern neighbor Westchester County. Then we're turning north and moving inland a bit for Pomona and Garnerville, then along the river for Haverstraw, West Haverstraw, and Stony Point. This county has a large Orthodox Jewish population, as does much of the Hudson Valley, so we'll be seeing some kosher stores along with a variety of other supermarkets around the towns. We'll begin tomorrow with a former supermarket on  Grocery Archaeology !

Look Inside: Back to Earth Natural Foods - New City, NY

Back to Earth Natural Foods Owner:  Richard Trupp Opened:  1996 Cooperative:  none Location:  306 S Main St, New City, NY Photographed:  March 2019 This 6400 square foot natural food store is the southernmost grocery store in New City, with a former A&P , a DeCicco , and a ShopRite to the north along Main Street. It's a very nice place, and it feels very friendly. Inside, there's a produce department, grocery/dairy/frozen, deli, and cheese/prepared foods. All organic produce, if I remember correctly. Back to Earth does not use a storebrand. Very nicely stocked! The deli and prepared foods department is clearly the main focus of the store. That's all for New City! We're heading over to nearby Hillcrest about three miles west for a store over on The Market Report tomorrow.

Coming Soon!

Our next geographic group, and the final one in New York, is Rockland County, which is just to the northern border of New Jersey. That's right folks, we have just six more stores before The Market Report finally returns to New Jersey, where we haven't been in nearly a year and a half. We have previously seen stores in Rockland County long ago, back in 2017. But we're returning for more coverage now. We have three stores over on The Market Report , with one here on The Independent Edition and two over on  Grocery Archaeology . We'll be starting to the north in Pomona tomorrow, working our way down to the New Jersey border over the next week. Stay tuned!
