I love the way these little grocery stores are built into houses! There's a good chance this building has had a grocery store here for a century. In many older cities, these grocers hang on despite changing ownership many times and are still open after decades. Norristown, a small city of about 35,000, has several supermarkets outside of the downtown area, but in the central part of the city, there's really only one alongside many of these corner stores and other small grocers. We're going to tour the main supermarket downtown tomorrow, right here on The Independent Edition!

  1. Bowman's Market in Gloversville, NY is also built into the main level of a house in a residential part of the city. I also wouldn't be surprised if these non co-op stores buy their merchandise from grocery stores (i.e. Walmart, Aldi, etc.) or Wholesale Clubs.

    1. I love that! Yes, I'm sure many of them do. Judging by storebrands, one that's not far from me (Woodland Superette in Worcester, MA) definitely buys its stock at Price Rite and a warehouse club, I can't remember which one.
